The power of PR

Our Founder, Kate Wild, and MD, Georgie Upton sat down recently with the Marketing Forum to talk about the role of PR in the all-agency group mix. PR (Public Relations) has come a long way, establishing itself as a formidable presence in the ad agency landscape.

We’ve had to fight for our place at the table, but PR as an industry has evolved over the last 20 years, becoming a vital discipline in the wider marketing mix. As Kate says, “PR has really transformed now, and we are at the table with all the other agencies in the mix. We are very involved in that grand process.”

What’s the difference between advertising and public relations?

The evolution of PR begs the question: how does the profession differentiate from traditional advertising?

For starters, we don’t work with the same budgets as advertising agencies, so we have to be creative with our cut and how we use it. PR is all about knowledge, relationships and storytelling with context. Without PR relevancy and reason, an entire campaign could fall flat. And it’s this nugget of relevancy and reason which we’re constantly striving to find for our brands.
