Food4Heroes Kernow was launched by Kate Wild at the end of April, in conjunction with Guy Owen, Executive Chef of the St Enodoc Hotel in Rock. It is estimated that more than 18,000 meals have since been distributed to community hospitals and care homes across Cornwall.
Throughout the last 4 months, our team in Truro have been working with chefs across Cornwall to bring healthy and tasty, freshly prepared meals to the NHS and care home frontline staff over the last eight weeks.
Kitchen hubs were set up in Rock, Newquay and Falmouth with teams of chefs working on a daily basis to prepare a mix of vegetarian and meat-based meals for delivery by a team of volunteer drivers into community hospitals and care homes across Cornwall. The meals were stored in fridges (several kindly loaned by Wild West client Ginsters) for 24hour access by staff as they came off shift. Our own Becky Bennett came on board in a voluntary capacity to drive the communications.
We’ve also been working with one of our clients, Donald Russell, as they pledged to support those in need during the crisis by teaming up with Fareshare to donate £5 from every charity BBQ box they sold. The box is available to purchase online with contactless delivery and Donald Russell expects to sell 2,000 boxes, resulting in a total pledge of £10,000.
You can purchase a charity BBQ box through Donald Russel’s website.
