What is community management?
Active community management is the practice of interacting and participating in live conversations, online, from a brand tone of voice. Social media platforms provide the opportunity to create meaningful engagement and interactions with customers, as long as a strong community management strategy is in place.
There are a number of different ways to engage in community management. Users can comment on existing cultural moments and digital trends such as a TV show or widely discussed film, enter into a trending social media debate or interact directly with a customer query or brand message in a colloquial manner, otherwise known as Brand-ter.
Some of the most memorable moments in social media history have come from community management and brand interaction, for example the famous Weetabix and Baked Beans post from 2021, which invited interaction from hundreds of brands and remains one of the most powerful and talked about social media moments to date.
Community management works best when the conversation and response is timely and transparent, meaning that the moment hasn’t been lost and the response is still relevant to your audience. It can be easy to get lost in the social noise and try and jump on every trend, but staying true to brand personality allows the user to build an authentic and recognisable voice.
